Hi, I’m Scott Brown DC, DABCN, FACFN, Board Certified Chiropractic Neurologist and wellness doctor. There are less than 1000 doctors world wide who have obtained this recognition.I specialize in optimizing function of what I consider the 3 most important components of health: brain (neurology), spine (nerve function), and metabolic function (thyroid, liver, blood sugar/insulin, adrenals, etc.).

My neurology practice consists of rehabilitating Vertigo, Balance, Movement, Cognitive/Memory, Mood, Learning, Sleep, Developmental, Autistic Spectrum, Spinal Cord, Fibromyalgia and Brain Trauma disorders – to name a few.

My spinal practice consists of rehabilitation of Musculo-skeletal, Neck, Back, Hip, Headache, Migraine, Extremity, Carpal Tunnel, Tennis Elbow, Rotator Cuff, Sciatica, and Thoracic Outlet disorders – to name a few.

My metabolic practice emphasizes support and prevention of blood sugar (Hypoglycemia, Insulin Resistance, and Diabetes), Thyroid (Hypothyroidism, Hyperthyroidism), Adrenal (Hyperadrenalism, Hypoadrenalism), Hormonal (male and female), Gastrointestinal, Kidney, Liver/Gall Bladder, Anemic, and AUTOIMMUNE  Disorders – to name a few.

We utilize cutting edge diagnostics and treatments with non-surgical, non-pharmaceutical brain based therapeutics. The procedures of chiropractic neurology are based on the intimate connection between the central nervous system and the musculoskeletal system mediated by sense receptors in muscles, eyes, ears, and nose. Modalities used include but are not limited to: proprioceptive (touch) stimulation, spinal adjustments, visual (eye exercises and light) stimulation, auditory (music and Interactive Metronome), olfactory (smell) stimulation, and cognitive  therapies. Physical therapies include: cold laser, hydrotherapy, EMS, oxygen therapy, and vibration.

The high impact field of chiropractic neurology was the subject of the PBS special AMAZING HEALERS called ” Waking Up The Brain”  The CD is available through our office.

You might ask ,”Isn’t bone loss just due to a lack of calcium like we have always heard? No. Not if you understand the mechanisms of how the immune system works. The human body has first line defense mechanisms which include the intestinal mucosa, respiratory system, skin, and blood brain barrier which are the first protections against foreign invaders. When the invaders (viruses and bacteria) get past the first defense, the T-Helper Cell systems (TH-1 and TH-2) kick in. In the first stage, (TH-1) the inflammatory immune system mobilizes to fight the foreign invaders. Once the invaders have been conquered, the second stage (Th-2) produces B cells to carry away the conquered invaders and signal the inflammatory army to return to the barracks. This is the scenario in a good immune system. When either the TH-1 or TH-2 system becomes dominant, there is a runaway of the dominant system resulting in autoimmune diseases such as Hashimoto’s, Graves, Multiple Sclerosis (MS), Addison’s Disease, Lupus, etc.. Osteoporosis, although not “classified” as an immune disease, follows this trajectory. In Osteoporosis, one of the TH-2 lymphocytes called Interleukin 6 will stimulate bone destruction (osteoclastic activity) resulting in a slight degree of decreased bone mineral density (BMD) called OSTEOPENIA, before it advances into full blown OSTEOPOROSIS. The standard medical treatment does not address the immune system one iota, but instead promotes the use of the drug FOSAMEX (side effects include osteonecrosis or loss of blood supply to the bone, GI dysfunction, anxiety, social avoidance, congestive heart failure, kidney failure, hypertension, inflammation, and the list goes on).

BROWN CHIROPRACTIC NEUROLOGY: How we are different is that we do not look at Osteoporosis as merely a loss of bone but as an immune failure. Without addressing the immune system, the osteoporosis can continue to progress resulting in more bone loss. Since the Fosamex drug therapy robs the blood supply to the bone and creates an inflammatory condition, my bet is on building up the immune system which will decrease inflammation and increase osteoblastic (bone building) activity.

Our treatment consists of supporting regulatory T cell systems with Vitamin D, Glutathione, Superoxide Dismutase, and Omega 3 Fatty Acids. We must also make sure the body is producing enough Hydrochloric Acid (HCL). In Chiropractic Neurology, we focus on 3 things: brain, metabolism (blood sugar, thyroid, liver, etc.) and structure. Ours is a drug free surgery free approach to wellness. We’d like to help!

If you read about or see artists’ renditions of the Bubonic Plague era in Europe, you will notice that even though 1/3 of the population was wiped out, the other 2/3 survived. The survivors, surrounded by dead and dying, hauled the dead from the streets in wheel barrows .T he 2/3 that survived were exposed to the same bacteria that killed 1 out of 3 people. So why did they survive.? The reason is that the survivors were strong hosts with strong immune systems. Those who succumbed did not have strong immune systems.

Most people think of the immune system in passive terms (This thing got me or I caught this bug) as if critters (viruses, germs, bacteria, etc.) select who to attack (serendipity). Nothing could be further from the truth. People in the very same bacterial or viral environment have markedly  different reactions to the same exposures. What has to happen before you “catch” something? Well, for one thing, our digestive system is now understood to be responsible for 75% of human immunity. So those with bad digestion (usually with bad brains) will be vulnerable. Also, our vitamin D levels are probably the most crucial early defense against immune challenges. Then,  there are numerous bodily tissues and cells  involved in proper immune function, including but not limited to: T & B cells, Natural Killer (NK) cells, macrophages, and numerous other cellular messengers.

Recent studies point to what is called “functional crosstalk between the immune system and the thyroid. So if the thyroid is not working properly, it can effect immunity. In addition, immune signaling mediators such as cytokines and adjuvants can disrupt the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis function. To complicate matters further, asymmetry of brain function (hemisphericity) can cause loss of immune resistance (left brain problem where one catches every bug or virus that comes along) or immune suppression (right brain problem where one has asthma, allergies, and psoriasis). So you see that the problem is not  the  invaders but in the host’s resistance to those invaders. Finally, most research today points to a strong immune system being a virtual roadblock to development of cancer cells.

At Brown  Chiropractic Neurology, utilizing  brain based therapeutics, we specialize in functional neurology and nutrition. Don’t turn into a host for bacteria and viruses  by strengthening  your immune system with diet and lifestyle changes. We keep abreast of the latest science based research to provide you with the best care for a healthy life. The gastrointestinal (GI) tract is connected to every major system (and most minor systems) in the human body. Depending on what research you see, between 60-70% of the human body’s immunity is dependent on the GI tract. Just as important, the GI system is responsible for production of almost 100% of the body’s neurotransmitters. No wonder those with GI symptoms frequently present with attendant depression, anxiety, and other mood disorders. Typical drugs such as anti-inflammatory agents and antacids do not address the underlying causes. The drug cover up postpones the inevitable need to find the true cause. The pain in GI disorders can be due to spasm and not inflammation, yet many times these individuals are taking anti-inflammatory drugs and getting nowhere.
It may interest you to know that, according to leading expert Datis Kharrazian (author of “Why Do I Have Thyroid Symptoms If My Lab Tests are Normal”), the GI relates to many conditions including but not limited to: liver detoxification, cardiovascular risk, neurodegenerative disorders, chronic fatigue, estrogen metabolism, food allergies, inability to lose weight, autoimmune disorders, functional hypothyroidism, oxidative stress, anemia, mood, pain and inflammation.

If you have been the traditional medical route and are looking for a non-drug, side effect free solution to your GI or other Neuroendocrine disorder, I’d can help.
