Continued from part 5……

Functions of the thyroid

(8) Moods and emotions – hypothyroidism causes adrenal weakness and as a result the adrenal don’t have healthy communication with the part of the brain called hypothalamus/pituitary/adrenal (HPA) axis. With poor HPA functoin, fat doesn’t burn resulting in weight gain. Also serotonin and dopamine aren’t produced in proper ratios resulting in depression, anxiety, and lethargy.

(9) Proper stomach acidity – proper stomach acid prevents reflux and heartburn because you can completely digest your food. Poorly digested food lingers in gut and rots up into the esophagus causing heartburn. HCL or hydrochloric acid is what prevents gut rot and prevents bad guys such as parasites, viruses, and bacteria from dominating the digestive system and making you miserable. In hypothyroid states, the hormone gastrin decreases which leads to loss of HCL production.

(10) liver detoxificaton – when thyroid function is low, the liver enzymes that detoxify just don’t mature leading to poor waste detoxification and waste clearance.

(11) growth hormones -growth hormones (GH) regenerate cells and tissues (even in adults). Growth hormones are released from the pituitary when more growth or more cells are needed. Thyroid hormones are necessary for GH to make insulin like growth factor (IGF-1) and finish the task of growing or creating new cells.

Stay tuned for part 7 as thyroid functions continues….
